While talking with Chris Bosh during media day the first thing I noticed was the significant amount of weight he put on. It’s clear the extra weight wasn’t in his gut from lounging around some players tend to do, rather the Raptors franchise player clearly dedicated himself to adding some bulk to what once was a lean upper body.
Last season he played at a slender weight of 225 pounds and this year he’ll be playing between 240 and 245 pounds.
So, how did Bosh do it?
“Working hard, eating a lot,” Bosh joked with the media. “I got with my trainers and we talked about everything. They expressed to me the desire to put more weight on and we started working on that early in the summer.”
The combination of new workout program and eating four to five times per day has made a big difference.
But it’s not just eating more, it’s what he chose to eat that helped make a big difference.
“A lot of vegetables. A lot of protein,” Bosh explained when asked about what changes he made to his diet this summer. “Just anything except a lot of junk food. Chicken. I kind of cut down the beef a little bit. I ate mostly chicken and fish while staying away from junk food. I couldn’t cut it out but I stayed away from it as much as I could.”
Throw into a new training regiment that saw him do everything from heavy weights to lighter weights for cardio and Bosh had a busy summer that is already showing results.
It’s just a shame his hamstring kept him from scrimmaging with all of his new teammates lat week in Ottawa.

Bosh has ‘bulked up’ to stop any criticism of his weight and strength as he angles for a max contract for next season.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Bosh is traded this season .. something like Dirk for Bosh .. which would complete the Raptors Euro-ization and eliminate the coming max contract bazaar.

Suppose this was Bosh’s motivation… could you blame him? If I were facing a season where millions lay in the balance I would do everything I could do to ensure I cashed in. Wouldn’t you?
