Exclusive Interview With Ryne Nelson

The big news within the online basketball community this summer has been Ryne Nelson’s meteoric rise from blogger to Online Editor of Slam Magazine. This weekend Ryne took some time to talk with me about his background as a broadcast journalism major, the story behind why he started the highly successful blog Odenized and how he was able to parlay that into his new gig with Slam.

This interview is one of my favourites and is a must listen for anyone hoping to break into journalism through non-traditional means. Ryne did a great job of explaining how a lot of late nights and hard work resulted in him achieving his goal of becoming a journalist.

  1. Great interview. My only problem was the “Meteoric Rise” comment in the intro. As LL Cool J/ Ladies Love Cool James says don’t call it a comeback I’ve been here for years. :-)

Ryne has always been the man, now he is just getting paid. I guess the phrase I would use is “Meteoric Recognition”.

  2. Great interview. Ryne, you’re the man. I’m stoked to see Slam Online develop even more over the course of the next few months.

  3. Ryne – It was great having you on the show! I had a blast hearing about your story behind securing new position as Online Editor at Slam and I’m stoked to see what you have planned come to fruition over the next few months. Hopefully I can have you on the show again sometime soon.

Ethan – Fair enough, I can easily admit meteoric rise may not have been the best term, meteoric recognition could have been a better choice of words.

  4. That was a very inspiring interview. Cudos to Ryne and Ryan for this classic interview. Ryne, be blessed. See you at the top.

Speaking of roughage ! Wow – what a rise from a lip-smackin-addict to a slammin’man ! Certainly will be a success in the real non-physical world of the digitally colon-ized !
