In three years he was coach of the year and brought the Pacers to the Finals. He single handedly made that team a championship contender in 3 years with Mark Jackson, Reggie Miller, and Rick Smits all past their primes. In my observation, some of the most successful coaches who were former players, they were all role players. Kareem would change that. I'd like to add his chemistry with the GM, would be more important than usual because he isn't a "spectacle" but probably more of an earnest coach I think if Kareem coaches an NBA team – he would be the first All-Star that succeeds in coaching.
