Hollins Not Sweating The Trade Deadline
With all the NBA buzzing about the NBA trade deadline tomorrow night, Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins isn’t worried about the next 24 hours. In fact, when his head hits the pillow tonight the furthest thing from his mind will be what moves Chris Wallace does or doesn’t make.
Even though Memphis has been involved in a couple of minor deals that would bolster his roster while chatting with him tonight it’s clear he isn’t paying too much attention to the deadline.
If anything his thoughts went out to the players being caught in the glare of the media.
“It’s not so much for me as it is for the players,” Hollins explained to me. “We’re going to coach whoever is here but the players are worried about if they are going to be traded. Sometimes there are names mentioned in the speculation and those players mentioned aren’t even being talked about. But when it’s out there in the media they start being concerned.”
For the head coach – and former NBA player – he knows that playing in this league is a business and where you play isn’t important. Rather, as long as some team in the league wants you on their roster that’s all players should be worried about.
“Players today tend to take rumors a bit more personally,” told Hoops Addict “For me, I was traded twice and I just think that as long as one of these 30 teams want you it’s a good thing. No matter who it is or where it is it doesn’t matter. As long as someone is going to pay your pay cheque it’s a good thing. When they tell you go to home and take this uniform off that’s when you should worry about it. It’s all just part of the business of basketball.”
Hopefully most of Hollins’ players are able to sleep as well as he will tonight.
