I like Googs, I first saw him play with the T-wolves, the great trio Googs, garnet and marbury. It was coincidence that my basketball buddy’s favorite player during that time was C. Webber and mine was Googs, later we discovered that these two players were traded for each other, and the rivalry between us in basketball starts there. I used to mock him and his idol because during the all-star in 97′(if Im not mistaken), C. Webber was not originally included in the all-star lineup and Googs was in the lineup, but later on, when Pat Ewing was injured, Webber was his replacement. Last time I saw him play, he was wearing jersey # 7 for the Celtics. He was a good player during his prime, had great moves and a very versatile player. I could very well remember one game against the Utah Jazz, Googs had 32 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists. They won that game. Hope he is doing fine.

My favorite Bullet/Wizards player EVER. All-around talent. I actually had season tickets the year they traded him for Webber. I was crushed. I rooted against the Bullets for the remainder of the year, and have yet to attend another NBA game to date (What 15 years now?). Petty? Maybe, but they seemed to really have a chemistry with Googs, et al, kicking the season off 4 and 1. With Webber on the roster, they finished the rest of the season going 17 and 60, with Webber getting viciously dunked on by Googs in their first matchup since the trade in game 22 of the season. And to top it off, Webber hurt his shoulder during the same game and was out for the rest of the year. All the best to Googs. And as for Webber, to me he represented all the worst aspects of what is otherwise a beautiful sport. I will now quietly jump off my soapbox.

I had a chance to actually meet him and get his autograph a few years back in Dallas when he was a T-Wolve. Nice guy,but injury prone. What a shame,he deserved better.

Googs is probably my fav player ever. I have 335 different trading cards of his and have been a fan of his since 1992. I liked him cause he was one of the most all around players ever, he could do anything, just look at his stats. It’s too bad he became so injury prone during his time with the suns, he missed tons of games and was lost in the shuffle. He really started to make a nice comeback in his stint with the Hawks in 2005, got more playing time, shot more 3s and really turned it up. I wish he could make a brief comeback and just get to 10,000 career pts.

Yeah Googs is one of my all-time favorite players. He could do it all, score, rebound, pass and play defense. His greatest asset to the teams he played on was his ability to draw the defenses attention, this opened up a lot of room in the offense for his team mates. He also made some of the greatest moves I have ever seen, in one game against Denver in 01, Phoenix was on a fast-break and Jason Kidd dished it to Googs on the wing about 10-12 feet from the basket. Googs set his feet caught the ball, up faked his defender high up into the air, and then went by him for the slam. That move brought every one in America West Arena to their feet.

A couple of knocks though. Like Christian Laettner he never lived up to his potential. People were making comparison of him to Larry Bird for a reason, he had enormous talent. I felt he never stood up for himself and demanded the ball more, like a star player should. He seemed ready to play the role players game, and that was beneath him. When he put his mind to it he could go out and score between 25-35 points, 8-12 boards, 3-6 assists and 2-4 steals a contest. What he needed was more of the killer Bird instinct.
