Audio: Flip Saunders Press Conference

April 25, 2009

After one year of being out of work, Flip Saunders is back in the NBA head coaching saddle once again.

This past Wednesday, the Washington Wizards officially signed Saunders to a four year deal, which made him the 22nd head coach of that franchise. He replaced interim head coach Ed Tapscott, who will remain with the team in an undisclosed capacity.

Saunders brings a vast degree of experience to the Wizards franchise. He has coached his teams to seven 50-win seasons, led them to the playoffs 11 times and reached the Conference Finals on four occasions during his tenures with the Timberwolves and Pistons. He is one of only six coaches to be named head coach of the All-Star team in both the Eastern and Western Conference.

On Thursday, during his introductory press conference, Saunders discussed what he learned from watching the Wizards last year in training camp, what it takes to be a champion in the NBA, his early impressions of Gilbert Arenas, and what he learned from sitting out of head coaching for a year.
