HOOPSADDICT.com is an online magazine that addresses the professional basketball scene and all of the amateur ranks that make up the basketball landscape. Since its creation in 2006, the publication has evolved from an independent blog to the credentialed media outlet it is today. In the online basketball community, Hoops Addict is one of a select few fan-inspired sites that looks to marry the die-hard fan’s passion with the objective journalistic conventions necessary for legitimate access to the game at its various levels.
Known predominantly for its mock drafts leading up to the annual NBA Draft, Hoops Addict hosts a number of features and either weekly or biweekly columns from writers all across Canada and the United States. Other features that have drawn the attention of sports fans include “Hey! Whatever Happened To?”; Inside Enemy Territory; Editor Ryan McNeill’s weekly NBA Podcast; regular interviews with both NBA and NCAA players, sports personalities and authors; and finally an archive of audio scrums that allow readers the opportunity to listen in on the reporter-player discourse before and after events.
The brain child of Editor Ryan McNeill, Hoops Addict made it’s first real splash in November of 2006 when a one-time printed magazine was distributed at the 2006-07 Toronto Raptors season opener at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Currently the staff includes McNeill, and notable contributors Trevor Smith, Rashad Mobley, Carolyn Hastings, Michael Tiedemann and Aaron Torres.
