Colangelo Falls Prey To Jordan
It appears Michael Jordan hasn’t forgotten the art of the pump fake.
After word circulated Monday evening that Charlotte would be sending Tyson Chandler and Boris Diaw to Toronto, Jordan took that deal off the table for what he thought was a better deal from Dallas.
The problem is this wasn’t a better deal.
The Bobcats acquired center Erick Dampier, shooting guard Matt Carroll, forward Eduardo Najera and cash considerations from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Tyson Chandler and Alexis Ajinca.
The big name heading to Charlotte is Dampier but his deal isn’t guaranteed and he is likely to be waived.
So now the team has lost their starting point guard and center this summer without replacing either.
Ouch.
Meanwhile, in Toronto, what looked to be a great day from Bryan Colangelo is now looking tepid at best.
Sure, he was able to work his magic and deal Hedo Turkoglu to Phoenix, but now the pressure is on him to move Jose Calderon. Prior to this week Colangelo had the option of moving Calderon or Jarrett Jack but after what transpired this week it forces his hand as to which point guard he will move.
There are reports that a couple of general managers are still interested in Calderon but the pressure is now on Colangelo to move Calderon.
