I just got word from the Raptors PR team that Chris Bosh won’t join the team early next week when they travel to Ottawa for training camp. According to the report, Bosh initially felt discomfort last week during a training session and then reaggravated the hamstring during a workout Wednesday in Toronto.

Doug Smith broke the news this morning but it took until tonight to confirm the speculation.

Personally, I’ll chalk this up to the team being cautious and not wanting their star player to enter the season hobbled. The next week in Ottawa means almost nothing so it makes sense to rest Bosh and ensure he is ready to go for the games that matter starting the last week of October. Sure, it would be great to have Bosh get used to playing with his new teammates, but in the grand scheme of things it makes sense to be cautious with this injury as the team is over a month from playing a regular season game.

I’ll be at the Raptors media day on Monday and I’ll be sure to talk with Bosh about this. Check out Hoops Addict after the weekend for the latest update on Bosh’s hamstring.
