Catching Up With Rashard Lewis

November 25, 2009

Back when I was a 4’10″ vertically challenged point guard entering high school I dreamed about dunking.

Now that I’m an adult – and still vertically challenged for a basketball player at 5’10″ – I have to admit not a lot has changed as I still dream of throwing it down during games.

However, the cold reality is I’m stuck living out those dreams on a Nerf net instead of a regulation 10-foot rim.

Rashard Lewis has always been gifted with height and peaked at 6’10″ which is the ideal height for a post player in the NBA. So he gets to live out the dream by throwing down nasty dunks, right? Wrong. Turns out Lewis loves the thrill of hitting a three-pointer and would much rather lurk on the perimeter rather than throw down crowd pleasing dunks.

When he was in town this weekend I talked with Lewis about where his fascination with shooting three’s came from, what he learned while playing with Ray Allen in Seattle and he talked about the kinds of shooting battles he has in practices with Vince Carter and J.J. Redick.
