You wouldn’t think a player who was a late season addition and that has only averaged 3.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 39 games in the NBA would fail to capture the attention of fans. To me, that’s the definition of an NBA vagabond.
But Pops Mensah- Bonsu isn’t your traditional bench player. His boundless energy, passion for grabbing rebounds and thunderous dunks captured the hearts of countless Raptors fans last season and he has been affectionately nicknamed “The Legend” by some people who cover the team.
Last night I had the pleasure of chatting with Pops Pops Mensah-Bonsu about what it was like to be back on the Air Canada Centre court wearing a Raptors’ jersey, the truth behind the rumour that his agent asked NBA teams not to claim him off waivers and what the coaching staff has told him he’ll need to do in order to secure some minutes this season.
