The Toronto Raptors announced Calderon underwent surgery this morning to repair ligament damage and capsular laxity to the ring finger of his left hand. The procedure was performed by Dr. Brent Graham at Toronto Western Hospital and recovery time is expected to be six to eight weeks.

This past season Calderon averaged career highs of 12.8 points and 8.9 assists (fourth in the NBA) while leading the NBA in assists-per-turnover ratio (4.21) for a second consecutive season.

Arguably the most impressive individual accolade from this past season was the fact he established an NBA single-season free-throw percentage record of .981 (151-for-154).

An impressive record in itself, when fans realize Calderon finished the season shooting those free throws with only one hand the feat will become even more impressive.

Throw into the mix the issues Calderon had with his groin earlier this season and it’s clear the Spaniard was showing a ton of heart by battling through some injuries that would have put most players on the shelf. Not Calderon. He battled through these issues and it will be interesting to see what kind of player shows up for training camp next fall if he’s fully healthy.
