Buzzer Beaters
* Fellow Hoops Addict writer Coach Godwin released a book this week called “Everyone Hates A Ball Hog But They All Love A Scorer” and he recently held a book signing at Barnes and Noble. Congrats, Coach!
* I don’t watch a lot of reality television, but one show over the past few years that has held my attention is Pros vs Joes on Spike. Needless to say I was pleasently surprised when I received an email this week from the casting director looking for my help in their next season. Here’s what the email said: “I am casting basketball players for Spike TV’s Pros Vs. Joes, where athletes that “just missed” a shot at the NBA or NFL compete against retired professionals. We have revamped the show for season 3 to feature 3-on-3 basketball and football competitions only. My team is combing the U.S. for talented players with good back stories, that never went pro. Maybe they suffered a bad injury during their college career. Maybe they quit basketball to take an office job. Maybe drug addiction derailed their hopes at going pro. Maybe they just weren’t good enough. We know theses people are out there and we are trying to find them. If you have or if you know of anyone with in the basketball world who has tracked these players over the years (scouts, trainers, etc.), have them contact me at their earliest convenience.” If you’re interested, or if you know someone who is, drop J.P an email (jp@sandboxermedia.com) for more details.
* Peter Robert Casey has a great look at Scott Odom. Who is Odom? He’s a 25-year-old basketball player that lost his leg 11 years ago. Odom’s looking to form a basketball team called “Amp1″ through the internet to: “help provide financial relief of medical bills for cancer patients and amputees in need. In addition, they provide a new outlet for amputee athletes to have the same competitive freedoms as able bodied individuals.”

* Something that’s become annoying while attending Raptors games this season is the constant booing of Vince Carter. Seriously, it’s been a couple of years and Raptors fans need to get over the heartbreak already. What makes this even more annoying is that when they rip on him during games it only helps Carter to focus and to have strong games against Toronto. If fans really wanted some revenge, they would become eerily silent whenever he touches the ball – perhaps we could get the DJ’s into this as well and the could cut the music – and see if that throws him off his game.
* The Big Lead has the scoop on the latest 15-year-old to get the recruiting world buzzing: high school freshman Tyler Lewis.

* Ben Golliver recorded some great video while at Terry Porter’s jersey retirement.
* Michale Grange of The Globe has a new weekly feature called Ask Hump. If you don’t laugh out loud while reading this post then you have no sense of humour.
* The next few weeks there will be a couple of different things happening here on Hoops Addict. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the Blogger MVP Rankings tomorrow and then Carnival of the NBA #62 early next week. I’ve been given the chance to host both things and I’m looking forward to drawing in some new readers who are checking out those posts. What I’m most excited about is the fact I’m talking with Fantasy Sports Players about adding the Video Player they have on Hoopsworld. I’m heading out this week to purchase an HD Camcorder and the plan is to start adding video clips I record pre-game and post game at Raptors games.
* Speaking of the Blogger Power Rankings, the latest ones are up on 3 Shades of Blue.
* I haven’t jumped on the Twitter bandwagon yet, but after seeing what Matt Watson did at a recent Pistons game I’m wondering if this is something Raptors fans want me to try during my Game Notes. Drop your thoughts in the comments section below if you want me to try out Twitter.
