Heading into media day one of the main topics of discussions for Raptors fans was the status of Chris Bosh’s hamstring.

As I expected, Bosh is missing the next week strictly as a precautionary measure and there’s not much for Raptors fans to worry about. After what the team went through last year with Jose Calderon the last thing the training staff wants is to rush another player back too quickly from the same injury so they are being extra cautious with Bosh.

“The good news is it’s not close to what Jose (Calderon) was going through (last season),” Bosh explained to the media Monday afternoon. “I think everybody learned from Jose last year. I’m not trying to rush back in there and I’m trying to make sure it’s better. Unfortunately I just need to sit and wait to see what they’re going to say.”

Adding to the agony of being held off the court is the fact Bosh can only ride a bike at this point.

While most people enjoy riding a bike to keep up their cardio, after hearing Bosh talk this afternoon it became painfully clear this is something the lanky forward doesn’t enjoy spending his time doing.

In fact, it would probably be safe to say it’s one of the things he loathes.

“I think I can do the bike right now,” Bosh explained while rolling his eyes. “I can do all the boring stuff. I can get my iPod and the television going and I can get on the bike. (But) I hate the bike, man. Hopefully I can maybe do something by the end of the week and by next week I’ll be going full speed again.”

While it will be tough to keep Bosh off the court, one of the more important things for the Raptors training staff will do this season is to slowly ease him back onto the court. Even if he feel he’s ready to go full speed they’ll be sure to slowly ease him back into playing shape instead of having him limp through the season like Calderon did last year.

Hearing Bosh talk this afternoon it sounds like this hamstring issue won’t linger and he’ll back to full speed within the next few weeks.
