Khandor - I'd love that to be the case, but do you really see Bibby's ego allowing that? I don't. There's no way a player who's been a star in the NBA for so long will allow a young kid to take his minutes. This PG situation will only lead to problems and controversy down the road.

Bibby will play the bulk of the minutes next year for the Hawks, splitting time with Law but, by the 2009-2010 season, Law will have supplanted Bibby as their full-time Starter.

At that point will Bibby be willing to accept a back-up role for the Hawks?

For the sake of their franchise ... let's hope so.

[...] To get Raptors fans ready for this game I sent Chase from Impending Firestorm some questions and he was great in responding - even if I did rip Mike Bibby earlier this week. [...]

Anthony RapFan - Bibby has played better lately (his 30 point game was impressive) but I still maintain his main contribution is scoring, which doesn't help Atlanta as it take the rock out of the hands of other talented scorers like JJ, Smith, Childress and someone like Horford who you want getting touches in the paint. Is Bibby a talented player? Yup! Is he a good fit for Atlanta? I don't think so. However, they have gone on a tear of late so maybe I'm wrong about this.

Brendan - Maybe Knight wasn't a good example, but that kind of player who has a great assist-to-turnover ratio and gets a lot of dimes. Maybe Jose Calderon is a better example?

C'mon, how can you call a rookie a bust? He was the top point guard in college last year and from what I've seen he's still the top rookie point guard in the NBA. Mike Conley is posting better numbers because he's getting more minutes and shooting a higher FG% (the second problem is something Law will fix this summer).

Brevin Knight would be a diaster for the Hawks as he is an injury prone player himself. A.C Law has shown in his rookie year that he too cannot be relied on for many games. Bibby is a good fit in Atlanta. The core of the players that the Hawks have needs to get better around him. Josh Smith is so up and down its crazy. Joe Johnson is a streaky player. Childress shows up 1 ever 4 games. Horford is a rookie who will have a lot of impact on this franchaise. My opinion is that they need to get rid of Childress , Zaza Joe Johnson and rebuild around Horford, and Bibby. The Hawks will make the playoffs though and it has been a long time comming for the fans of Atlanta.

Connor,

Lately, Bibby has played better, but the Dirty Birds were playing the garbage teams. We'll see how he plays on Wednesday. For sure he is not their long term solution to their "improved" roster. The Hawks are just lucky that Horford is going to establish a very STABLE future, but unlucky that ACIE LAW is a potential BUST. THEY ARE VEEERY LUCKY THAT Wince Carter is Tanking the Season even though he's got non-tankable talent.

I have to admittingly say that Billy "Goat Horn of 05 Draft" King fInally made a good trade by tossing away expiring garbage and Candace Parker's fiancee BUST for good talent.

Yes, I agree that Mike Bibby is a huge upgrade over Diaw and JJ. However, with that being said, is a guard with a shoot first mentality really the answer for Atlanta? I don't think it is. With a roster full of shooters in Johnson, Smith, Williams, Stoudemire and Childress I would have preferred to see Knight acquire a point guard that would have looked to get those guys more open looks, not take more shots himself.

If I were the GM I would have snagged someone like Brevin Knight who would have come cheaper and would have allowed Atlanta to gradually increase Acie Law's workload next season.

Good topic to consider, Connor. I think you might be right when you said, "the problem with adding Bibby at this stage of his career is that he brings more in terms of name recognition than he does results."

On the other hand, Bibby is the first natural PG the Hawks have in a long time. Remember when they played Joe Johnson and Diaw out of position?
