With Miami’s current roster established, individual aspirations must now be set aside and the sole focus should be on winning a championship. As a coach, I can see some looming issues concerning team dynamics but based on the current roster there are several ways to keep every member involved and contributing to the greater good.

This evening I attended a Basketball Canada event and I was able to chat with Andy Rautins about being drafted by the New York Knicks, being able to play for Mike D’Antoni, what he learned from his play in Las Vegas earlier this summer and his pride in representing Canada at the World Championships this summer.

Tonight I had the chance to chat with Joel Anthony about his new contract, being able to play with a stacked roster in Miami next season and what playing the World Championships for Canada this summer means to him.

This afternoon I went to the Raptors Basketball Academy and DeMar DeRozan talked with the media about his experience coaching kids, his play in Vegas Summer League and being the face of the franchise this season.

The NBA is a superstar-driven league, something which these squads could find out the hard way. But the league landscape is ever-changing and each of these teams is armed with some of the tools necessary in moving forward. Time will tell just how well they use those tools.

The Houston Rockets signed center Brad Miller to a three-year, $15 million contract. Miller was very excited to join the Rockets, mainly because it signified reuniting with Rick Adelman, who coached Miller in Sacramento from 2003-2006, and Kevin Martin.

The Atlanta Hawks have officially announced the signing of, Atlanta native, forward/center Josh Powell. Powell has agreed to a one-year $1.1 million contract.

While the rest of the fans, teams and Las Vegas odds makers are off ogling the Heat, the defending NBA champions have quietly put together an offseason worthy of the three-peat that they’re aiming to achieve in 2010-11.

Don’t look now, but the Los Angeles Clippers are starting to build something pretty special out in Los Angeles.
