One-On-One With Derrick Rose

On January 20th, 2009, Chicago Bulls head coach Vinny Del Negro all but declared the Rookie of the Year race over.

“‘‘There’s not even a conversation as far as I’m concerned,’’ Del Negro told the Chicago Sun-Times. ‘‘[O.J.]Mayo’s having a great year, and[Michael] Beasley is an incredibly talented player and is playing well. But no one’s played at the level Derrick’s played from the start to this point. Not even close in my opinion.’’

Given Rose’s numbers this year, its hard to disagree with Del Negro’s assessment.  He has started all 61 games, and is averaging 16.5 points a game (second among all rookies) and 6.3 assists (first among rookies).  In addition, Rose created quite a stir on YouTube back in November of 2008, when he unleashed a vicious crossover against the 76ers’ Andre Miller.

Prior to the matchup against the Washington Wizards, Rose sat down with Hoops Addict to talk about his visit to the White House, his adjustment to the NBA, and how his game would be affected by playing in front of President Barack Obama.
