On ESPN’s True Hoop, I read Kevin Arnovitz suggesting that Rajon Rondo could be an all-star this season.
This is worth mentioning only because last year, when I said he was one of the top young point guards in the league, everyone seemed to disagree:
When does Rajon Rondo start to hear his name among the best young point guards in the NBA? I’m not suggesting that he is Chris Paul, Deron Williams or Tony Parker, but the kid can play and he does what the Celtics need him to do. If he gets a jump shot, watch out.
Okay, so “everyone” was really just one person, but on other sites, many people discredited Rondo last season, saying that he played with three great players and did not add anything, which was a ridiculous statement.
The Celtics deserve three All-Stars this season; the only question is whether Rondo deserves it more than one of his teammates. It’s too hard to give one team four All-Stars, especially when the Cavaliers have been nearly as dominant and will likely only get one. But, when I look at the Eastern Conference, which I admittedly do not watch that often, the top four point guards so far this season are Jose Calderon, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose and Devin Harris.
